Chartered
Helicopter Portage /
Raft Trip and Glacier /Alpine Hikes
|
Experience the ultimate
in wilderness air travel as you depart Nugget
Creek via chartered
helicopter portage to the upper reaches of the Tsirku Valley.
Six massive glaciers carve their way through the northern escarpment
of Glacier Bay National Park and the western boundary of Canada’s
Tatshenshini/Alsek Provincial Park to spill out into the valley
floor immediately adjacent to the Tsirku River. With hanging
glaciers encrusted between towering mountain crags and spires,
this area is dynamic beyond description. It is not unusual to
witness gigantic icefalls that break free of sheer cliffs to
plummet hundreds of feet down the mountain.
Enjoy a safe casual glacier-walk on one of these giant rivers
of ice before boarding our raft for a swift water trip down
the braided river channels where we do not leave the beauty
of the valley behind - we raft through it. Within the first
90-minutes of arrival we view a total of six valley floor glaciers
and then our rafts enter the only “class three” white
water stretch of the river which lasts just a few minutes yet
adds an additional element of excitement to your world class
river adventure. After rafting the upper Tsirku we can continue
your trip with an optional overnight stay at our DeBlondeau
Glacier Camp Cabin or Nugget Creek Tent Camp. Day trips can
opt to stop at Nugget Creek for gold panning and catch a flight
out, or continue rafting to our raft take out location at Devil’s
Elbow, 1.5 hours down river. For those who prefer an extended
raft experience we continue on past Devil’s Elbow for
another two hours and silently float through the heart of the
Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. On this portion of the river we
normally see anywhere from 20 to 60 bald eagles feeding on
sockeye salmon that are migrating up river to spawn at adjacent
Chilkat Lake. |
