Nugget Creek Gold Mine
and Tent Camp is a 160-acre private holding in the Tsirku River
Valley near Haines, Alaska, and it has origins that date back
to the gold rush era of the late 19th century. Nugget Creek is
accessed by a thrilling airboat trip or a scenic (glacier view)
fixed wing air charter. Guests can recreate the excitement of
the gold rush era and spend an hour, a day or extended days prospecting
for gold on this
mineral rich land. We provide
instructions and basic gold panning equipment. Nugget Creek is the location where
you are most likely to experience the thrill of discovery. Guests are welcome
to keep any gold they pan. This incredibly beautiful location is the only private
land in the upper Tsirku River Valley. Nothing but wilderness surrounds us and
continues on to encompass Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park, and Wrangle/St.Elias
National Park, as well as Kluane National Park in the Canadian Yukon and British
Columbia’s Tatshenshini/Alsek Provincial Park. The joining of these vast
wilderness areas create the largest contiguous area of protected land on planet
earth, which in 1979 was ratified by the United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization as a World Heritage Site. The vast majority of the
27,000,000 acres of these parklands contains no amenities and are inaccessible
to the casual
Alaskan
visitor. Our Nugget Creek staging area is located in the remote
glacially active Tsirku River Valley, which extends well into
an isolated corner of wilderness that is bordered on two sides
by these international parklands. The Tsirku Valley and the
adjacent Takhin Valley are condensed versions of many aspects of the World Heritage
Site. To compare
them would be akin to comparing rainbows, except our rainbow
has a gold mine and allows you guided access to a variety of
adventures easily within reach of the casual, as well as the
most adventurous, of Alaska visitors. This is big game country
that supports a population of moose, wolf, coastal grizzly bear,
black bear, as well as the ever present mountain goats browsing in the alpine
meadows. Our guides are ever watchful and will call guest’s attention to
wildlife. We also provide powerful spotting scopes and binoculars for guest to
use in their quest for wildlife sightings. Within minutes after your arrival
at
Nugget Creek our professional staff and technical support facilities can have
you rafting
by 6 valley-floor glaciers, hiking on a remote alpine ridge,
walking on a glacier, or snuggling into a warm bed in a remote
cabin or tent. We invite you to explore our website, then contact
us by email or phone. With knowledge of your interests and
expectations
we will be delighted to customize adventure
components that fulfill your expectations and meet your outdoor expertise and
time allotment.
